Slough Town Challenge Cup Competition
Junior Semi-Final
Slough Laurencians 3
Alpha Arms Academicals 4
Saturday 28th February 2009
Alpha Arms Academicals got to their
first Slough Town Cup final in their 14 year history after coming from
behind three times to defeat a gallant Slough Laurencians 4-3.
On 15 minutes Laurencians took a deserved lead through James Wilson
buth this was short lived as James Clark weighed in with a screamer
from 20 yards.
The hosts restored their advantage on 30 minutes when Dylan Abraham
netted. Barry Coaker put Alpha back on level terms when his
bullet header from Clark's drilled in cross beat the keeper.
Just after the restart a Laurencian corner was only half cleared to the
edge of the box where an opposing Dave Ruan smashed the ball past a
static defence to restore the home team's lead for the third time in
the tie.
The home team started to tire and sat back as Jamie Mayland, captain
Grant Gritt and Jamie Lee Di Guiseppe all went close while Jose Lino De
Silva rattled the crossbar.
With just 15 minutes of this enthralling semi-final remaining, Coaker's
cross was superbly headed into the Laurencian net by the impressive
Amin Khomsi and minutes later Clark put the Alpha boys 4-3 up.
Slough Laurencians had a superb chance to send the game into extra time
but Jose Faria in the Alpha goal pulled off a great save to ensure the
Alpha boys progressed to play Foxes in the final at Burnham FC on April
15.
